Wisconsin: One "teenager" is dead after a pursuit ended in a fiery crash in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

The Milwaukee Police Department said at around 7:17 p.m., officers noticed someone driving recklessly, and was wanted for a felony. MPD attempted to make a traffic stop near 19th and Hampton. The driver refused and a vehicle pursuit ensued. 

The pursuit ended when the driver struck a tree. The driver and sole occupant of the fleeing vehicle, a 17-year-old, sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the crash location.

Two officers were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries from the fire.

The Illinois State Police sadly announced the death of K9 Bane, the loyal partner of Trooper Carrie Arvidson. After a remarkable career spanning 7 years with the Illinois State Police, Bane passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 8.

You may remember back in May when two of our detention deputies, Deputy Jacob Mar and Lt. Brandon McCaslin were violently attacked and stabbed by an inmate, convicted murderer, John Anthony Cole. 

This attack sent both deputies to the hospital, Mar to ICU with life threatening injuries.  We’re happy to report that both deputies have since recovered and returned to work. 

We would like to thank our community and our county for the overwhelming support our deputies have received.  Thank you to so many, including the Angel Care Project and literally people and organization from all across the United States. We very much appreciate you, appreciating us. 

The men and women who work in our detention centers have one of the most dangerous jobs in law enforcement.  It takes a dedicated and courageous person to place themselves between our citizens and those who choose to harm them. 

The people of Sebastian County are fortunate to have just enough people who choose to do just that by working in our detention centers. 

Again, we appreciate our detention staff, and we appreciate you for acknowledging their sacrifice.
