BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Three masked gunmen leapt out of a stolen car and opened fire on an off-duty Chicago police officer in Back of the Yards on Sunday morning.

At approximately 6:13 a.m. [local time], a 30-year-old police officer was near her garage in the 4800 block of South Bishop Street when a white sedan approached. Three masked men reportedly exited the vehicle and began shooting at her. The officer returned fire, according to CPD. The gunmen then fled north through an alley in their car, which was driven by a fourth person.

The officer suffered a minor injury from broken glass and was transported to a hospital for observation.

The Nebraska State Patrol Special Investigations Team is investigating a Columbus Police Department officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., NSP was requested to investigate an incident in which a Columbus Police Department officer was injured, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary investigation shows that while Columbus PD officers were conducting an investigation in the 3000 block of 13th Street, a female subject attacked one of the officers with a knife, injuring the officer. Another officer then discharged a firearm, striking the female subject.

Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the female subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital and was treated and released.

We Remember and Honor Deputy Stephen “Steve” Douglas Sorensen, End of Watch (EOW) August 2, 2003, Gunfire

The job of a resident deputy is fraught with unique problems that harken back to much earlier days of law enforcement in Los Angeles County. Located in far-flung places like Gorman, the Catalina Island Isthmus, and Lake Los Angeles, resident deputies must possess a degree of patience, tactical sense, and communication skills far above those of the average patrol deputy. The lack of a ready backup from fellow deputies also requires developing rapport with local citizens to help keep an eye out for them when needed.

By all accounts, Deputy Steve Sorensen possessed all the skills needed to be an excellent resident deputy for the Lake Los Angeles area of the high desert. Steve was well-liked and a great communicator who knew how to relate to the people he served. After his murder, accolades poured in from community residents who described incidents where Steve went out of his way to help them, regardless of their connection to law enforcement, such as buying groceries for those who could not afford them and doing yard work for the elderly.

On August 2, 2003, as Deputy Sorensen investigated a routine trespassing complaint in an isolated trailer, 52-year-old ex-felon Donald Kueck opened fire on him with a high-powered rifle. Kueck later called his daughter while on the run and said he had a violent one-on-one encounter with Deputy Sorensen, took his gun away, and shot him with it, but the ambush theory seems more likely. Following Steve’s death, Kueck’s actions became progressively more gruesome. He continued to fire bullets into his head and chest with the rifle and then desecrated his body before tying a rope around his legs and dragging him several miles into the desert.

After a six-day manhunt, deputies located Kueck. He confessed to Deputy Sorensen’s murder via cell phone and barricaded himself in a house. A Sheriff’s Special Weapons Bureau team surrounded the location, and a gun battle ensued as SEB tried to approach with an armored vehicle. The standoff ended when SEB tossed flares into the location. Placed on the horns of the dilemma, exit the house and engage in a deadly battle with a SWAT team, or stay in the concealing terrain of the location as it burned to the ground all around him, the suspect chose the latter option. Deputies found his charred remains inside after firefighters extinguished the flames. Beside him were Deputy Sorensen’s gun and radio.

Deputy Steve Sorensen, 46, a 12-year veteran of the LASD, worked in the jails before transferring to Altadena Station. He became the Lake Los Angeles resident deputy in 2000. His wife, Christine, and two children survived him.

A massive wildfire burning in California’s Central Coast has injured at least three people, forced hundreds to evacuate, and burned nearly 40,000 acres as it continues to grow on Sunday, officials said.

CHILD RAPIST APPREHENDED!

7/25- A convicted child rapist was apprehended after his release from prison in Hermiston, OR. USBP, ICE, U.S. Marshals, and the DEA coordinated the arrest of this Mexican national, who was convicted twice for rape of a child and served time in prison for both. The man is illegally present in the U.S. and is facing removal.

All federal agencies agree, there is no place in this country for violent offenders. This arrest underscores our unwavering commitment to keeping dangerous individuals off our streets.

Michigan: Detroit police say an officer was injured, and a suspect is dead after a shooting on the city's east side.

The shooting happened sometime after 10:30 p.m. in the area of Neff Avenue and Chester Street. Police say the suspect who was killed was identified as 16 years old. The officer was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

A second suspect, also 16, was taken into custody, and police are searching for a third person.

Police Chief Todd Bettison says police were patrolling the area that has recently experienced break-ins. While on patrol, police spotted three people wearing masks near a building and arrested one of them.

Bettison says the two other suspects ran away, leading to a brief pursuit. He says there was a struggle between the officer and one of the suspects, when the individual reached for a gun and shot the officer in the hand. He says police fired back, fatally wounding the teen.

New York: Three individuals are facing multiple charges following an early morning altercation outside The Wine Cellar on North Main Street that resulted in one police officer being injured, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

Officers from JPD’s 3rd Platoon responded to reports of a fight around 1:30 a.m. on August 3. Upon arrival at 309 N. Main Street, officers encountered several individuals actively fighting outside the bar.

As police worked to separate those involved and disperse a growing crowd, 28-year-old Cesar L. Rodriguez of Dunkirk allegedly repeatedly shoved an officer despite being ordered to back away. After a brief struggle, Rodriguez was taken into custody. Officers then deployed OC spray to control the crowd.
During the incident, 22-year-old Diondra F. Drayton of Jamestown allegedly aimed her own pepper spray at officers and threatened to use it. She was subsequently arrested.
