βLittle children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.β

The officers observed Carrillo at a second-floor entrance to the apartment complex. Carrillo threw lumber, ceramic pots, and other objects at the officers while armed with a knife, resulting in the discharge of less lethal munitions.
Carrillo fled and forced entry into an occupied second floor apartment through a window. The officers forced entry into the apartment and were confronted by Carrillo who was armed with a knife and metal chair resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting and the discharge of an additional less-lethal munition.
Carrillo was struck by gunfire and taken into custody without further incident. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, who pronounced Carrillo deceased.
A knife, metal chair, and lumber were recovered at scene and booked as evidence. One officer experienced pain in his left leg after being struck by lumber; however, he declined medical treatment. Two community members suffered minor injuries during a struggle with Carrillo as he attempted to enter their apartment. One of the community members was treated by LAFD personnel, the other declined treatment.
