The Atmore Police Department has been made aware of a circulating video from an April incident that depicts an encounter between a citizen and an Atmore Uniformed Patrol Officer.
First and foremost, the Atmore Police Department takes a very proactive stance in ensuring Officer Standards, Law Abidance, and Professionalism. All complaints are thoroughly investigated in Compliance with federal and state laws. The video(s) posted show a small glimpse into the totality of circumstances surrounding the encounter and have been edited to give a misleading account of the arrest.
The entire incident was caught on department-issued body cameras and has been retained. It is also available to the 21st Judicial Circuit for the trial of this case. This encounter took place on April 3, 2025, and the edited video was posted on July 22, 2025.
The Atmore Police Department officer ran a tag check through a State database that showed the driver to have an Active Warrant of Arrest for the charge of Reckless Endangerment. The driver was identified as Miller McCaster of Atmore, AL. This warrant was confirmed.
The officer made contact with the wanted person via the driver's side window and requested the driver to step out of the vehicle. Instead, the driver began to roll up his window, catching the officer's arm between the window and the door.
The officer issued multiple warnings to let the window down and exit the vehicle, but McCaster did not comply.
The officer was forced to break the window to free his arm and effect the arrest, with McCaster being arrested immediately after.
McCaster had no injuries from the arrest. The officer was injured and received treatment from a local physician.
An inventory of the vehicle was conducted after it was impounded. Illegal narcotics and paraphernalia were seized. Officers also discovered a handgun in McCaster's pocket.
McCaster was charged with assault second, marijuana first, obstructing government operations, and resisting arrest.
He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center without incident. All information has been presented to the Escambia County District Attorney for the ongoing case.
Sincerely,
Charles H. Brooks // Chief of Police
