President Trump is displeased the 10-year moratorium on state-level enforcement of laws or regulations governing artificial intelligence (AI) on the state level was removed form the One Big Beautiful Bill

When this was discovered in the OBBB, many lawmakers and constitutionalists saw it as an attack against State Sovereignty, and a sign of Federalism.

Me??? I understand what he is saying, I really do.. but this is a very slippery slope.

🔻 His argument… stems from the likelihood that horrible states will hold up innovations because of extremely high standards. It’s impractical to have 50 different sets of state laws that could harm innovation

🔻 My Argument… this threatens state sovereignty and risks severe abuse. It also sets a major precedent in favor of federalism…

Trump’s concern about varied state laws slowing progress is valid, but centralized control is dangerous. Past federal overreach, like PRISM surveillance, shows how a single AI standard could enable biased algorithms or censorship by a malicious administration.

State sovereignty offers checks against such abuses.

Maybe a hybrid model—federal oversight for military AI, state control for commercial AI—balances security and sovereignty. States can also collaborate on model laws to ensure consistency without federal mandates. Preserving state authority safeguards innovation, accountability, and constitutional principles.

I trust my President has the best intentions in mind… but he’s banking on every administration after his departure from office having the best intentions in mind also..

I am not willing to bank on that.

BREAKING: President Donald Trump has secured a $221 million settlement with Columbia University to resolve multiple federal civil rights investigations.

The deal includes $200 million over three years for alleged discriminatory practices and $21 million to settle claims of antisemitic employment discrimination against Jewish faculty after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks in Israel.

The White House called it the largest antisemitism-related settlement in U.S. history; Columbia confirmed the dollar amounts, but did not characterize the deal that way.
