The Los Angeles Police Departmentβs Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Olympic Division.
On June 3, 2025, around 10:00 p.m., Olympic Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon shots fired, at an apartment complex located on the 1000 block of Ardmore Avenue. As the officers were entering the complex, the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Ronald Gainer Jr, appeared from an apartment, while armed with a firearm, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred. Gainer was struck by gunfire and retreated into the apartment but was taken into custody a short time later without further incident. The Los Angeles Fire Department transported Gainer to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It was later determined that earlier in the evening, Gainer was involved in a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend, who fled the apartment. Gainer then exited the apartment and discharged a firearm in the air and at an adjacent apartment building, prompting the radio call.
No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
A black steel, Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun, empty magazines, and discharged cartridge cases were recovered at scene and booked as evidence. An additional handgun, magazine, and ammunition were recovered from inside the apartment.
Force Investigation Division investigators along with representatives from the California Department of Justice responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.

Michigan: A Marquette Police Department officer was treated for injuries after being punched by an armed robbery suspect.
Around 1:55 a.m. on July 18, police officers responded to an armed robbery report at the Midjim Convenience Store at 301 W. Fair Avenue. A male reportedly robbed the business of merchandise while armed with a baseball bat.
Responding officers located the suspect outside the business, still holding a baseball bat. Upon contact, the suspect put the bat down and initially began to follow the officersβ commands. Moments later, as officers were approaching, the suspect became noncompliant and began to run away.
A short foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to catch the suspect. At this time, the suspect punched an officer in the face, causing injury to the officer. The suspect was eventually brought into custody.
The officer was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of injuries and was released.
