Massachusetts: Two off-duty police officers from the Leicester Police Department, were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Worcester after a pickup truck made a left turn and failed to yield.

The driver, a woman, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and failure to yield.

Our thoughts are with Officers Eddie Santiago and Stephen Kustigian as they receive medical attention. We appreciate the quick response of the Worcester police officers, FIrefighters, EMS and Good Samaritans and wish a speedy recovery to the injured officers.🙏🏻

This is California state parole agent Joshua Byrd, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in Oakland yesterday afternoon.

According to the Governor’s Office, Byrd began his career with CDCR in June 2014 as a cadet at the correctional officer academy.

He went on to serve as a correctional officer and later as a correctional sergeant before becoming a parole agent with the Division of Adult Parole Operations - Oakland Office in October 2024.

He is survived by his wife and three children. In his honor, flags at the State Capitol and other state facilities will be flown at half-staff. This marks CDCR’s first line-of-duty death since 2018.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: A police sergeant is recovering in the hospital after investigators said a gunman shot him while responding to a call late Thursday night in southeast Houston.

Once both officers arrived, one of them was shot in the leg. The officers were able to fire back at the gunman. Both the officer and the initial shooter were able to get medical treatment at the scene before they were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

“I wanna say that our prayers and thoughts are with the sergeant that is recovering in the hospital right now,” Asst. Chief A. Rodriguez said during a news conference. “And we know that these guys work hard out here, day in and day out, to protect the citizens of Houston on a daily basis. So we hope for a speedy recovery from our sergeant that is recovering currently in the hospital, and we wish him well.”
