More attacks on law enforcement from the riots last month. Dominic Rios, 21, was arrested for targeting the cockpit of an LAPD helicopter with a laser, hitting it three times during one of the “protests.”

The attack on the pilot & helicopter caused the pilot to adjust altitude mid-flight. According to the FBI, the size of the light beam can reach the size of a watermelon by the time it travels to the cockpit, causing dangerous obstructions. Based on info from the pilot and flight officer, LAPD officers on the ground were able to make an arrest. Rios faces up to 5 years in prison and potential fines.

7/9- USBP agents carried out targeted enforcement operations in Anaheim, CA, when a Mexican national—illegally present in the U.S.—became hostile. He ignored commands, reached into his backpack, and grabbed what appeared to be a firearm. When he refused to surrender, agents deployed an electronic control device to stop the threat. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun. He’s now in FBI custody facing serious charges.

NJ Transit bus driver charged after police officer is seriously injured.

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said a marked vehicle driven by Roseland police officer Marc Miller was hit by the NJ Transit bus that sped through a red light on June 20 at the intersection of Livington Avenue and Prudential Drive at 4:10 p.m.

Miller was taken by medical helicopter to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The bus driver, Djimmy Evra, 40, of Orange, and three passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries. Evra is charged with fourth-degree assault by auto and related offenses.

“The investigation indicates that this was a senseless accident which could have been avoided. Reckless driving puts lives at risk, and we will hold anyone accountable who endangers public safety whether they are behind the wheel of a personal vehicle or public transportation," Stephens said in a statement.
