The Texas Department of Public Safety sadly announced the death of K-9 Athena.

She served as a narcotics detection dog alongside her handler since May 2022. After undergoing treatment for lymphoma, Athena’s health declined rapidly, and she was peacefully laid to rest this week. K-9 Athena was a trusted partner, a companion to her handler both on-and-off duty.

Prayers for her partner, their family and the agency.🙏🏻

As the Director and I close out our first few months in our roles, I want to provide another update on our efforts to both reform the FBI, and hunt down bad actors.
Some of these action items you may have already read about, some you may have not. 

-We are mission-focused on crushing violent crime and making your neighborhoods noticeably safer. Here are some of the early results. We have arrested 14,000 violent criminals. This represents a 62% increase from the same period last year. Many of these violent criminals are cartel leaders, and child predators, and they’ll be looking at long prison terms. We also located and apprehended three of the FBI’s top ten “most wanted,” and we are closely tracking others. As a result, the murder rate is currently tracking to be the lowest on record. This is not a victory lap, we are doubling down hard.

-We have arrested over 825 violent child predators, and 140 human traffickers, as we aggressively pursue the filth that prey on our children. If you’re preying on our children, we are coming for you. It’s only a matter of time.

-We warned those violently acting out in the recent riots that we would restore order, and pursue you if you chose violence. Over 700 arrests have been made in coordination with our federal and state partners. Many of those arrests are members of organized groups, and we are pouring through data in pursuit of more bad actors. We are not done.

-In conjunction with our federal partners, we apprehended, imprisoned, and deported over 18,000 illegal aliens. Many of these illegal aliens had violent criminal histories. As a result, last month, ZERO illegals were admitted into our country. We are fully engaged in this mission, and we will move around our manpower as determined by conditions in the field.

-We made numerous personnel and structural changes to the leadership of the FBI to ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated. Those changes continue. And, as a reminder, things are happening that we cannot publicly discuss. It does not mean they are not happening.

-I will send a separate, more detailed post shortly about our arrests of multiple foreign intelligence targets engaged in illegal activities. These cases continue as we move quickly to round up these threats to our Homeland.

-We are hyper-vigilant in protecting our Homeland given the current heightened global threat environment, while we deal with our CI, criminal and other critical responsibilities.

-There’s more work to be done. Stay tuned on additional disclosures, and updates on public corruption cases. And again, for those who have been patient with us, thank you. For those who are out of patience, thank you too. We understand we are in a RESULTS business.

The previous administration lost ~300,000 unaccompanied children—many of these innocent children were trafficked and exploited. DHS is now leading efforts to conduct welfare checks on these children to ensure they are safe and not being exploited.

Portland, Oregon: Federal officers conducted an operation to recover the machete used in the attempted killing of a DHS officer.

The deadly weapon landed on the property of an elementary school adjacent to the ICE building.

The Old Bridge Township Police Department, NJ sadly announced the death of Officer Andrew Paterek, at home. No further information was provided. Officer Paterek served for the past 2.5 years.

California: On June 20 at around 10AM, Petaluma Police responded to Casa Grande High School after a groundskeeper accidentally ran over a large illegal firework with a lawnmower which triggered a powerful explosion.

Fortunately, the groundskeeper was not seriously injured—an outcome that could have been much worse especially given that he was on a gas-powered lawnmower.

The origin of the firework is still under investigation.
