UPDATE: An officer was hurt during a shooting near the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica on Wednesday, according to the police department.
The suspect is described as a Black man in his 30s, wearing a dark-colored jacket and black pants.
According to Lt. Lewis Gilmour, shortly after 1 p.m., an officer recognized a suspect on a wanted bulletin near Santa Monica Place (4th St & Colorado). As the officer approached the individual to make contact, the suspect reportedly produced a handgun and fired a single round at the officer before fleeing the scene.
The officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury and is in stable condition at UCLA Medical Center, Gilmour said.

Fireworks Safety: United for a Safe Fourth
On June 25th, Assistant Sheriff Myron Johnson joined local elected officials, CAL FIRE, and other local fire and law enforcement executives from across Southern California at the LA City Fire Department's Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center for a fireworks safety press conference.
With the 4th of July rapidly approaching, the unified message was clear: Please celebrate your patriotism by attending professional fireworks shows and avoiding illegal fireworks. Leave the fireworks to the pros. Illegal fireworks put lives, homes, and communities at risk, especially in densely populated areas and neighborhoods with overgrown vegetation. LASD Assistant Sheriff Myron Johnson said, "This year, we are collaborating wholesomely with our public safety partners and encouraging all residents to celebrate by attending a professional fireworks show."
If you do plan to host your event, here are some quick Fourth of July Safety Tips:
β’ Check with your local city to see if fireworks are allowed in your neighborhood.
β’ Use only "Safe and sane," legal fireworks.
β’ Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby

The driver of one of the cars during the pursuit was a 10-year-old boy, according to police.
Investigators say Delaware State Police first observed a blue Hyundai Sonata following a blue Hyundai Santa Fe closely on Friday, June 20, at about 5 a.m. Both vehicles had Maryland plates, and a check revealed both had been reported stolen from Baltimore County, MD.

Colorado: A Pueblo County deputy was injured late Tuesday night in an incident that involved shots being fired and a chase.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office provided an update explaining deputies were called to reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
"When deputies attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle, the driver drove into a patrol vehicle and shots were fired," the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office wrote in a news release, although it isn't clear who fired shots. "The suspect then drove off westbound on Highway 96. Deputies pursued the vehicle and conducted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the vehicle to roll near Highway 96 and Vision Lane. The suspect driver and a passenger were apprehended and taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the incident. The 23-year-old driver was later transferred to a Colorado Springs hospital for further treatment of his injuries."
The chase lasted about four miles.
The sheriff's office is reporting that a deputy was injured when his vehicle was hit by the suspect's vehicle at the Loaf 'N Jug. The deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation.
