What’s going on with this recent series of Democratic politicians having run-ins with federal law enforcement?

EXCLUSIVE: More than 80 illegal aliens were arrested during a worksite enforcement operation at the Delta Downs Racetrack in Louisiana today. According to ICE, the op was conducted after authorities received intelligence indicating that the businesses operating out of the stables at the racetrack were employing unauthorized workers. All of this comes after a brief pause on worksite enforcement operations at farms, hotels, and restaurants. 

“Oftentimes, when we’re conducting these worksite enforcement operations, we uncover other forms of criminal conduct such as document and benefit fraud, money laundering and human trafficking,” said ICE HSI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Eric DeLaune.

Los Angeles County Sheriff, Robert "Bunker Bob" Luna joined ABC7 news today to discuss how ongoing federal immigration activity within our communities is affecting our daily operations.

"Aside from the protests, we continue to do our “day job” and pursue individuals who commit crime, which is unrelated to immigration. Our department does not enforce civil immigration laws, nor do we ask about an individual’s immigration status when we respond to calls for service. We recognize the fear and anxiety that our community is experiencing right now, and we want to reassure everyone that our role is public safety, not immigration enforcement. We continue to monitor, plan, and prepare for the days ahead and will facilitate peaceful protests. I’m grateful for the chance to highlight the tireless work of our deputies, who are out there 24/7 protecting our communities."

On Tuesday morning, at approximately 2:20 am, off-duty Deputy Marcos Pena Jr.  was involved in a fatal traffic collision on the northbound 101 Freeway in the Noth Hollywood area.

Our 31-year-old deputy was pronounced deceased on scene where he tragically passed away from his injuries.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic and untimely loss of Deputy Pena Jr., who was taken from us far too soon,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the honor of serving alongside him.”

Deputy Pena joined the Department on July 14, 2022, and after completing the academy, Class #462, was assigned to Men’s Central Jail.

Deputy Pena is survived by his mother, Michelle Rubio and his stepfather, Deputy Albert Rubio, who is assigned to Court Services, his four stepsiblings, Diserre Rubio, Ashley Rubio, Albert Rubio, and Deja Rubio.
