Virginia: One of the worst phone calls to receive at 3:40 in the morning as a Sheriff is from your Communications Center informing you that one of your deputies has been injured in a vehicle crash.

Early this morning, while conducting a traffic stop and completing a summons, our deputy was struck from behind by a driver who had fallen asleep at the wheel. He was seated in his cruiser at the time of impact.

Thankfully, the deputy has since been treated and released from the emergency room and is now home recovering.

Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recovery.πŸ™πŸ»

This incident is a stark reminder of the risks our law enforcement officers face every dayβ€”even during routine duties. I’m incredibly grateful he’s okay, and I continue to be proud of the dedication and professionalism of our entire team.

Thank you to all who serve.

Florida: An investigation is underway after a deputy-involved shooting that left one man dead in Frostproof on Friday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were attempting to arrest 43-year-old Primitivo Garcia for failing to pay child support when they said his brother, 53-year-old Francisco Garcia-Vega, charged one of the deputies and struck him in the head with a 2x4 piece of lumber.

As Francisco was winding up to hit Deputy Martin again, other deputies fired at him.

"Francisco feloniously attacked our deputies with a deadly weapon, significantly injuring one, forcing them to shoot him." said Sheriff Grady Judd.

Primitivo ran from deputies, and they used tasers to take him down.
Deputy Martin suffered a 3.5-inch cut to the back of his head which took 11 staples to close. He was released on Saturday morning.

Please join us in sending prayers and, or positive thoughts for his recovery.πŸ™πŸ»

Chicago: Police estimate the crowd at the β€œNo Kings” protest in Chicago was ~15,000 deep.

CPD Supt. Larry Snelling: β€œWhat I saw from the start, was a bunch of people that came out here to exercise their first amendment right. They were very peaceful, very complimentary of the officers.”

There was one arrest of a person who allegedly punched an officer in the face. I’m told the officer is okay, and the suspect was immediately taken into custody. I do not have any further details on that person, but told no other arrests were made and no major incidents.
