The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station received the torch from our partners at to kick off the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) actively participated in the 39th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit the Special Olympics Southern California.  

More than 300 deputies from sheriff’s patrol stations and units across the county, along with members of other law enforcement agencies took part in the relay as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

NY: A deputy was injured during an arrest after fights broke out at Ontario Beach Park Wednesday night, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said they responded to the area to help with reports of “disturbances” breaking out in the large crowds. Ontario Beach Park hosted the first Concerts by the Shore on Wednesday evening.

During the response, MCSO said 19-year-old Deandre Leonard was running while carrying a handgun. He was apprehended, and the firearm was recovered, along with a 30-round magazine.

Leonard was charged with second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.

The deputy received a hand injury while making the arrest. He was evaluated at a local hospital.

Los Angeles: On April 23, 2025, around 2:05 p.m., Southeast Patrol Division uniformed officers were in the area of West 113th Street and Compton Avenue, when they saw a known suspect, wanted for Child Abduction. The suspect, 36-year-old Osmin Briseno, was known to carry firearms. Officers attempted a traffic stop on Briseno’s vehicle, however; he suddenly fled at a high rate of speed. A short vehicle pursuit ensued, terminating on the east 105 Freeway on-ramp at Central Avenue.

Briseno exited his vehicle holding a backpack. The officers repeatedly commanded Briseno not to reach inside the backpack, which he ignored. Briseno led officers on a foot pursuit, running west toward Central Avenue. As he reached Central Avenue, Briseno suddenly stopped, faced a pursuing officer, and reached inside the backpack, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

Briseno was struck by gunfire and fell to the pavement, where he was taken into custody. Briseno was transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for gunshot wounds. Briseno was absentee booked for an unrelated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a Firearm crime report and other outstanding felony warrants. Briseno’s booking number is 7003741.

No firearms were located at the scene. No officers or community members were injured during this incident.

Last night, Officer Krystal Rivera of the Chicago Police Department was fatally shot in the line of duty.

We express our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and fellow officers as they mourn her loss.

Officer Rivera was featured in a Chicago Sun-Times article in October of 2021 upon graduating the police academy.

Krystal was a 36 year old single mom trying her best for her family, her job, and for her community. She was a dedicated four year veteran on the police force and showed up every day for the city, paying the highest possible price for her commitment.
