"We Mourn the Loss of K-9 Officer Rebel

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our own—K-9 Rebel, who was killed in the line of duty early Thursday morning.

Rebel assisted officers during a SWAT operation as they attempted to arrest an armed suspect. Tragically, Rebel was shot during the dangerous incident.

Rebel was a loyal and courageous member of the Albuquerque Police Department for seven years and served our city with honor and bravery.

He was not only a partner to his handler but a valued member of our police family. His dedication and service will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with Rebel’s handler, our entire K-9 unit, and all APD personnel affected by this loss. Thank you for your service, Rebel. We’ll take it from here.
