LAPD News: FID at scene of a shooting in Olympic Division.

Preliminary info: At around 3:20am Olympic Div ofcrs responded to a call of “armed robbery in progress” at a business 1600 block S. Western Ave. Air unit responded and spotted the suspect on foot.

Air unit reported that the suspect was attempting to change his clothing, and directed officers to the suspect’s location. Upon contact with the suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred.

The suspect, described as a male adult, was transported by fire department, paramedics to a nearby hospital for evaluation and will be booked into an LAPD jail facility.

No officers or community members were injured during this incident.

The suspect was not struck by gunfire. A taser was used to take the suspect into custody. The suspect’s weapon was recovered at scene and will be booked as evidence.

BREAKING: The Justice Department is launching an investigation in California to determine whether Title IX is being violated by trans athletes competing in girls sports.  

This comes the day after President Trump threatened to pull federal funding from CA, if AB Hernandez, a transgender athlete at Jurupa Valley H.S., competes later this week in the State Finals.

On Wednesday, letters of legal notice were sent to CA AG Rob Bonta, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and the Jurupa Unified School District “To advance the appropriate interpretation of Title IX to ensure equal educational opportunities and prevent discrimination based on sex in federally funded schools and athletic programs.”

Currently, California law requires schools to allow transgender athletes to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity. 

In response, Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon says, “Title IX exists to protect women and girls in education.  It is perverse to allow males to compete against girls, invade their private spaces, and take their trophies.”

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli says, “The law is clear: Discrimination on the basis of sex is illegal and immoral.  My office and the rest of the Department of Justice will work tirelessly to protect girls’ sports and stop anyone - public officials included- from violating women’s civil rights.”
