Happening now! 🌋

Good night to all! 😴

On Memorial Day, a day reserved to honor those who gave their lives in service to this nation, tragedy struck again. A Morrow County (OH) Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed handling a domestic violence call in Marengo, Ohio.

This marks the second Ohio law enforcement officer murdered in the line of duty this month. Just weeks earlier,  Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy Larry Henderson was intentionally struck by a vehicle while working a traffic detail during a college commencement ceremony.

Two line-of-duty deaths in 24 days.

Two reminders of the very real dangers officers face—every shift, every call, every unknown encounter.

To every officer reading this: stay sharp, stay vigilant. These weren’t accidents. They were acts of evil lying in wait. Let them serve as reminders: every call has the potential to turn deadly.

The weight of the badge is heavy right now—but we carry it together.

This profession asks much of those who serve—and even more of the families who stand behind them. Behind the badge are spouses, children, parents, and communities now grieving the unimaginable.

To the public: support your officers not just in words but through understanding, engagement, and empathy. Check on the ones who wear the badge. Remind them they’re not alone.

We honor our fallen not just with tribute—but by continuing the mission with greater resolve.
Stronger. Sharper. Never forgetting.

Chief Scott Shughes

Absolutely incredible! I captured this during takeoff. A bald eagle chose this morning to perch on one of the hangars at our airport. Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all who have served! 🫡🦅
