Please, pray for the Fairview Heights police officers who were shot in the line of duty overnight. 🙏🏻

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Late Saturday evening, multiple officers from the Fairview Heights Police Department, Illinois, were shot while responding to a report of a suspicious individual in a residential neighborhood. Authorities confirm that one suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

According to officials, the shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. near homes on Potomac Drive. At least two officers sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.

Officers were initially dispatched in response to reports of a person acting suspiciously near a residence. Upon making contact with an individual matching the description, the suspect opened fire, striking multiple officers.

The suspect is currently in custody. Further details regarding the shooting and the officers' conditions remain unavailable at this time.

In a statement, the Fairview Heights Police Department expressed appreciation for the swift response of law enforcement and emergency personnel. “We are thankful for the rapid and professional actions of our officers and first responders. We ask the public to keep our injured officers, their families, and our department in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

One Officer was shot in the face and underwent emergency surgery. The Officer is in critical but stable condition.

A second Officer was shot in the arm and is being seen at a hospital for treatment. The bullet broke a bone. 

A third Officer appeared to have also been shot in the back but the vest stopped it. This Officer was treated and released.

Two other Officers were treated at the hospital for injuries sustained fighting this suspect. Both were released.

We can now confirm the identity of the suspect is Guy Edward Bartkus, 25, of 29 Palms.

Bartkus is believed to be the individual who is deceased at the scene. Investigators are working to positively identify the remains.

An anti pro-life manifesto believed to be authored by the suspect has been located and is being examined by the FBI.

We are happy to report that no embryos at the IVF center were damaged by the explosion.

This case is being treated as an intentional act of domestic terrorism. The investigation is ongoing.

The Laurel County Fire Department, Kentucky, sadly announced  the death of Major Leslie Roger Leatherman of the Laurel County Fire Department. 

He was fatally injured during his response to the devastating tornado in Laurel County overnight.

Major Leatherman was a dedicated public servant for 39 years, answering the call to protect and help others in their most critical time of need. His courage, commitment, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
