Press Sec’s MAGA Minute from the Middle East

The White House

This morning, I spoke with Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to offer federal resources and action for the deadly tornadoes and storms impacting Missouri, Kentucky, and Illinois. We discussed how while emergency management is best led by local authorities, we reinforced that DHS stands ready to take immediate action to offer resources and support.

I also left a message with Indiana Governor Mike Braun as Indiana has been impacted by these storms.

Local emergency managers should swiftly notify people in the affected areas to take action to protect themselves and their belongings.

DHS stands ready to help when a state needs, requests, and declares an emergency. Follow us for updates and closely monitor messages from your state and local leaders.

An active spring pattern brings severe weather this weekend across the central U.S.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: Storm systems sweeping across parts of the U.S. Midwest and South have left at least 23 people dead, many of them in Kentucky, where what appeared to be a devastating tornado crumbled buildings and flipped over a car on an interstate.

In Kentucky, some 14 people were killed by severe weather, and the death toll is likely to rise, according to Gov. Andy Beshear. Local authorities in Laurel County, in the state's southeast, said nine people were killed after a tornado touched down.

Laurel County resident Chris Cromer said he got the first of two tornado alerts on his phone around 11:30 p.m. or so, about a half-hour before the tornado struck. He and his wife grabbed their dog, jumped in their car, went to a relative's nearby home and got into a crawlspace.

Ohio: An officer was injured and six minors were arrested after a fight broke out in Downtown Dayton.

When officers arrived, they found that multiple groups of minors were fighting and they attempted to break up the physical altercations.

Police said that pepper spray and tasers were used to get the fights under control. Police say that five boys and a girl were arrested for disorderly conduct.

One officer had minor injuries from breaking up the fight.

Please join us in sending prayers and, or, positive thoughts for his recovery. 🙏🏽
