Florida: A Fort Myers man is in the Lee County Jail and charged with aggravated animal cruelty after he violently threw a kitten on the ground and buried it in the backyard.
On Saturday evening just before 6:30pm, 5th precinct deputies responded to 483 Figueroa Avenue regarding a report of animal abuse. Deputies made contact with several witnesses on scene. Witnesses explained they watched Alfonso Alexander Perez Nas (H/M; DOB 6/20/2000) drinking alcohol and violently threw an unnamed kitten to the ground. The kitten cried and appeared lifeless. Sadly, the kitten died on impact. Perez Nas then held the kitten to the sky and said he was going to put on some music and kill more cats. 5th Precinct detectives and the Animal Cruelty Task Force assumed the investigation. A search warrant was completed and the kitten was exhumed from the backyard.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated: "I've said it once and I'll say it again: Animal cruelty will never be tolerated in Lee County. This disgusting act landed Perez Nas in the Lee County Jail. We will always protect those that cannot protect themselves."

Details: https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/california-state-park-rangers-shoot-man-at-lake-perris-state-recreation-center/
Lake Perris was never a "nice" place to play, but 25-30 years ago it was at least mostly decently safe.
Nowadays you couldn't pay me to get within 1,000' of Lake Perris or the entire town of Perris for that matter.

Deputy Stephen W. Blair
End of Watch: May 12, 1995
On the evening of May 12, 1995, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Deputies Stephen Blair and Robert Lyons observed two individuals walking along the 5200 block of Walnut Avenue in Lynwood. As they approached, one of the men appeared to discard a firearm into a nearby yard, prompting the deputies to slow their patrol vehicle to investigate.
As they came to a stop, one of the men remained near the vehicle while the other continued walking. Both deputies exited the patrol car. Deputy Lyons focused on the individual near them when he suddenly heard gunfire. Seeking cover, he turned to see Deputy Blair collapse, having been struck in the upper torso. Despite his critical injuries, Deputy Blair managed to draw his firearm and return fire before succumbing to his wounds.
Deputy Blair, 31, was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:08 p.m.
Both suspects were later apprehended. The shooter, a repeat offender facing a potential third-strike sentence was convicted of first-degree murder in July 1996 and sentenced to death.
A dedicated 10-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Blair is remembered for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to duty. At the time of passing, he is survived by his wife, Dana, and three sons from a previous marriage: Stephen, 11; Joseph, 6; and Michael, 5.
We honor Deputy Blair's legacy and the ultimate sacrifice he made in the line of duty.
