Illinois: A man and a police officer were injured in a series of incidents Saturday afternoon at the P&V Quick Stop along Route 51 in Macon.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office and Decatur Park Police responded to the gas station at about 11:50 a.m. after a caller said a man had crashed one vehicle into another and was standing in the parking lot holding a machete and "acting suspiciously," according to a news release from MCSO.

Officers arrived, secured the scene and began negotiating with the man, but he ran away onto Route 51, so officers closed the roadway to traffic.

According to the news release, the man gained control of a sheriff's office squad car and rammed it into a parked DPP vehicle, disabling both vehicles.

The man then pointed a shotgun at officers, who responded by firing their service weapons at him, the news release said.

The man was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, the sheriff's office said. He was later transported to a hospital in Springfield for injuries sustained in the traffic crash.

A DPP officer was also injured in the traffic crash and was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment.

DEVELOPING! Montana: The Sawlog Fire – Firefighters experienced extreme fire behavior, especially in the timbered areas with a heavy concentration of "dead and downed" trees. The fire progressed east across Sawlog Creek, toward the fire footprint from the 2021 Alder Fire. The fire footprint from the 2021 Christensen Fire lies to the south.

The crews, assisted by the helicopter, attacked the fire until incoming weather prompted them to disengage late this afternoon. Winds up to 40-50 mph associated with passing thunderstorms resulted in gusty outflow winds and downdrafts, which present dangerous conditions for firefighters. Zero precipitation fell over the fire area.

Fire officials characterized the fire behavior as "very uncommon" for this time of year. Given these extremely dry fuel conditions, the potential for fire growth is high.  Today's acreage growth could not be determined exactly, as firefighters were unable to see the main fire. An infrared mapping flight has been ordered for the overnight hours.

‼ For public safety reasons, the Bureau of Land Management has issued a temporary closure for the Sawlog dispersed camping area, located at the Big Hole River ford site.

Today, Explorer Class 112 had the incredible honor of being instructed by the elite range staff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Recruits from nearly every station in the county, including our participating agencies, came together for a day filled with learning, teamwork, and unforgettable memories. From sworn staff to LASD Explorers, everyone walked away with smiles from ear to ear.

Thank you to the range instructors for their time, dedication, and mentorship. Congratulations to Burbank PD for having the top shooter of the day! And shoutout to every runner who braved that hill, you pushed through and earned it! It's been an amazing day for Class 112, which is united, motivated, and better-trained than ever!

A Massachusetts state trooper was taken to a hospital early Saturday morning after a crash with a suspected drunken driver on I-93 in Milton, officials said.

A trooper responding to two-vehicle crash just before 3 a.m. was struck by a Dodge Durango driven by Charles Keeton, 31, of Dedham, according to state police. He was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.

The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
