Residents who are already going through so much after losing their homes in the Eaton Fire are now having to worry about something else: burglaries.

Chicago: COPA is investigating a shooting involving an off-duty officer on the city’s Southwest Side.

According to police, the off-duty officer was confronted by a group of armed offenders when an exchange of gunfire ensued around 4:20 a.m. Monday on the 3700 block of West 67th Place in the West Lawn neighborhood.

Police said the armed offenders then entered a dark-colored sedan and fled the scene westbound.

The officer sustained a minor injury, possibly due to broken glass, and was transported to an area hospital for observation.

NEW: A carjacking suspect is dead after he was shot by police following a wild chase on Monday evening in Philadelphia.

At one point, the suspect could be seen traveling at a high rate of speed against traffic.

Officers later swarmed the vehicle after it hit a tree in a grassy median at Roosevelt Boulevard and Langdon Street in the city's Summerdale section.

Police say the suspect came out of the vehicle armed, and that's when he was shot multiple times.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Commissioner Kevin Bethel said this all started with a carjacking at G Street and East Hunting Park Avenue around 7 p.m.. The police chase suspect allegedly shot a 32-year-old man before taking his vehicle.

Fox is told Yonaiker Gallegos was in local custody on misdemeanor charges while using a fake name, and has posted images on social media flaunting a rifle & grenades. He is a Venezuelan illegal alien and HSI now has him in custody on immigration violations.

“On Tuesday evening April 22, 2025, HSI was able to locate Gallegos who was utilizing the false name Yoniaker Rafel MARTINEZ-RAMOS, who was in state custody in Las Angeles County on misdemeanor charges for ,“Blank Checks Etc;. Defraud ; Driving w/o a license, Possession of Deceptive Government ID/ Drivers license”.
(No other criminal history) Based on this information HSI was able to obtain information about the items that were in Martinez-Ramos’s possession at the time of his arrest, and were able to determine that this individual was likely utilizing a false identity and was in fact Yonaiker Gallegos.

On Wednesday April 23, 2025, HSI National Gang Unit was able to obtain pictures of Martinez-Ramos’s tattoos and booking photos, and by utilizing several of the advanced analytical tools, analysts were able to locate several social media photos and postings and conduct facial comparison ultimately positively confirming that Martinez-Ramos was in fact Yonaiker Gallegos.

HSI Los Angeles in coordination with state and local law enforcement successfully took Gallegos from state custody into federal custody on immigration related charges.”
