Update: In 2nd trial, judge found guilty of shooting, killing wife during argument.

A jury found a former Orange County Superior Court judge guilty of intentionally killing his wife in 2023.

The first trial against 74-year-old Jeffrey Ferguson ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. His second trial ended Tuesday when the jury found him guilty of second-degree murder.

Prayers for the Johnson County NC Sheriff's Office deputy who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon. 🙏🏽

Tennessee: JCSO deputy released from hospital after being shot following 421 chase.

Johnson County Sheriff Clifton Worley said a deputy in his office was in the area on Highway 421 when authorities from Watauga County, North Carolina notified them of an armed robbery at a convenience store in Vilas.

According to Worley, authorities up ahead on the highway were able to block the roadway. The suspect then reportedly got out of the vehicle, allowed it to continue forward and started firing at officers near a rock quarry.

“At which time our officers returned fire,” Worley said. “We had one officer struck, and the suspect was struck. One was airlifted to the hospital. The other was transported by ground. As far as I know, our officer, he’s OK, and he’ll be fine.”

After her most recent arrest, ICE Boston transferred custody of Leandro De Oliveira over to the U.S. Marshals Service. She is expected to be prosecuted for illegal reentry after deportation.

04/19/25 Saturday Night at approximately 8:30 PM LAFD recieved a call for service near Figueroa St & Century Blvd in South Los Angeles. It came out as an expanded traffic collision. A fully involved mini van was engulfed in flames in the middle of traffic on Century Blvd. An irate man was standing near the burning vehicle swinging around a metal bat.

A Good Samaritan had tried to help put out the fire with a fire extinguisher but the man was combative and did not allow him to spray it. The fire grew larger as the man kept people from helping and was beating the van with his large metal stick.

NEW: Palm Springs Police Officer Stabbed During Altercation with a Suspect

Palm Springs, California – April 22, 2025 – At approximately 2:40 PM today, PSPD officers responded to a disturbance in the 1500 block of North Sunrise Way. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male individual, later identified as Phillip Smith (41), who was reportedly causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises.

During the initial contact, Smith suddenly produced a knife and assaulted one of the officers, stabbing the officer in the hand. Despite the unprovoked attack, officers responded with restraint and used only minimal force to quickly subdue Smith and take him into custody without further incident.

The injured officer was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The officer’s condition is currently stable and is expected to recover.

Phillip Smith has been arrested and is expected to face charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

JUST IN: Police have arrested the man suspected of hacking down several downtown Los Angeles trees with a chainsaw over the weekend. 

He has not yet been identified, but Los Angeles Police Department investigators announced the arrest on Tuesday evening at around 7:30 p.m.

The Los Angeles Police Department has issued a warning to elderly residents about a sleight-of-hand trick thieves are using to steal jewelry.

On Tuesday, LAPD shared security camera footage of several incidents involving suspects believed to be behind thefts in recent weeks, including the moment two thieves in a black SUV pulled the trick on a 75-year-old grandfather in Chatsworth. They were able to steal the man's gold cross necklace after asking him for directions.

Detectives said there's typically an uptick in these types of crimes in the summer.
