NEW: Two Stolen Vehicles Recovered in Two Hours — Thanks to Automated License Plate Recognition

On Saturday afternoon, officers recovered two stolen vehicles in separate incidents, thanks to real-time alerts from our Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

First stop: A stolen vehicle was located on the 10700 block of Jefferson Boulevard. The driver was arrested without incident.

Second stop, two hours later: Another stolen vehicle was spotted near Sepulveda Boulevard and Culver Boulevard. Officers conducted a safe traffic stop in the 4300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, arresting the driver for vehicle theft and a passenger for drug possession.

Another example of how technology and proactive policing are working together to keep Culver City safe.

Three people, including a Virginia State Police trooper, were injured in crash that occurred in Henry County on April 20.

The crash happened at around 9 p.m. on the southbound side of William F. Stone Highway, two-tenths of a mile south of Dillons Fork Road.

According to state police, Trooper M.L. Gravely had stopped in the right travel lane with emergency lights activated to assist a disabled motorist when the incident occurred.

Police said a 2013 Toyota Highlander, going southbound in the right lane, struck the rear of the parked patrol vehicle.

Trooper Gravely was not inside the patrol vehicle at the time of the crash.

However, both Gravely and the driver of the disabled vehicle sustained minor injuries after diving over a guardrail to avoid being hit.

Trooper Gravely was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the Highlander, 58-year-old William J. Likins of Oakland, Maryland, was wearing a seatbelt and also sustained injuries.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

DEVELOPING: Shelter in place ordered during SWAT standoff in La Jolla neighborhood.

The San Diego Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and SWAT teams arrived at a home in the area of La Jolla Scenic Drive and Via Casa Alta, near the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial.

The police department reports that a person is in their car with a gun, refusing to get out.
San Diego Police have closed several roads in the area, from La Jolla Scenic Drive S to Upper Hillside Drive. Police are asking the public to avoid the area and for residents to shelter in place while the standoff is ongoing.

Update: In 2nd trial, judge found guilty of shooting, killing wife during argument.

A jury found a former Orange County Superior Court judge guilty of intentionally killing his wife in 2023.

The first trial against 74-year-old Jeffrey Ferguson ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. His second trial ended Tuesday when the jury found him guilty of second-degree murder.
