Mike Pence leads the 50th anniversary celebrations of humankind's first steps on the moon, as astronaut Stan Love says US will 'absolutely' complete Trump's goal of returning to the lunar surface by 2024. A moonstruck nation celebrated the 50th anniversary of humanity's first footsteps on another world Saturday, gathering in record heat at races and other festivities to commemorate Apollo 11's 'giant leap' by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Nostalgia is rife among some of those celebrating, with many sharing anecdotes online of where they were when they saw Neil Armstrong bounding along the lunar surface for the first time. But NASA astronaut Stan Love has insisted it won't be long before we see the incredible feat replicated once more, pledging that the US will 'absolutely' be able to land on the moon again by 2024. ๐Ÿฅณ

More than 200 million people in the eastern and central US are bracing for an extremely toasty weekend. A heatwave is threatening to bring temperatures as high as 110 Fahrenheit from Friday through the weekend. 'Friday is going to be bad. Saturday is goingโ€ฆ
Heat wave death toll rises to six as temperatures rocket towards 115F across Midwest and East Coast. Temperatures Sunday are expected to range from the mid 90's to the triple digits, with the heat index making it feel as hot as 100 to 115 degrees - making it a record breaking sizzler from the Midwest to much of the East Coast. Such is the strength of the heatwave that police officers in Braintree, Massachusetts, asked residents 'to hold off' on all criminal activity until itโ€™s cooler. Officers said in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post: 'Folks. Due to the extreme heat, we are asking anyone thinking of doing criminal activity to hold off until Monday. 'It is straight up hot as soccer balls out there. Conducting criminal activity, in this extreme heat is next level henchmen status, and also very dangerous.' ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
