A British Royal Navy warship raced to help a UK oil tanker that was captured by Iran last night but arrived ten minutes too late, a defence source revealed today. HMS Montrose, which was patrolling the Persian Gulf, was forced to do a U-turn when it received orders to assist the UK-flagged Stena Impero, which had been seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of Defence released this photo of HMS Montrose warding off Iranian Revolutionary Guard speedboats which harassed the UK-flagged tanker British Heritage on July 10. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt branded Tehran's actions as 'completely unacceptable' after heavily-armed gunships intercepted the Stena Impero and the Medsar after 4pm yesterday. #losers

Mike Pence leads the 50th anniversary celebrations of humankind's first steps on the moon, as astronaut Stan Love says US will 'absolutely' complete Trump's goal of returning to the lunar surface by 2024. A moonstruck nation celebrated the 50th anniversary of humanity's first footsteps on another world Saturday, gathering in record heat at races and other festivities to commemorate Apollo 11's 'giant leap' by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Nostalgia is rife among some of those celebrating, with many sharing anecdotes online of where they were when they saw Neil Armstrong bounding along the lunar surface for the first time.
