Alabama: An officer with the Hollywood Police Department was injured after being attacked by a driver during a traffic stop on Friday, police officials told WAFF 48.

According to Hollywood Police Chief Cecil Davis, the traffic stop was initiated at 6 p.m.

Sheriff Rocky Harnen identified the suspect as Steven Kyle Cornelison, 30, of Scottsboro. The officer who was attacked was identified by authorities as Dhruvil Patel. He was transported to Highlands Medical Center. Harnen said Patel has a fractured jaw and other injuries after the attack.

Patel was treated and has been released.
