Florida: The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a deputy-involved shooting early this morning following a female driver who fled from a traffic stop that began in Seminole.

Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop in the 17700 block of Gulf Boulevard in Redington Shores. During the stop, DeFilippo ignored commands and continued driving northbound. At one point, she pointed a handgun at an Indian Shores Police officer before ramming multiple patrol vehicles and continuing her attempt to flee. As deputies continued, DeFilippo’s vehicle sustained severe tire damage, at the conclusion drove with only one functioning tire.

Near 20254 Gulf Boulevard, Pinellas deputies deployed their Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle to perform a PIT maneuver, bringing DeFilippo’s vehicle to a stop. Deputies attempted to subdue her using less-lethal measures, including bean bags and pepper balls, but she continued to resist and crashed into additional vehicles. At approximately 2:03 a.m., seven deputies fired their weapons, striking DeFilippo. She ultimately was removed from the vehicle at approximately 2:28 a.m. after deputies introduced pepper balls and gas into the car.

A handgun was recovered from the vehicle, but it is unknown if the woman fired the handgun.

One deputy sustained minor injuries during the crash and is receiving treatment.

Please join us in sending prayers and, or, positive thoughts for his recovery. πŸ™πŸ»

NEW: U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson in New York in December 2024.

Mangione, 26, allegedly shot Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel in a premeditated act prosecutors call "political violence" and a "cold-blooded assassination." He faces federal charges, including murder with a firearm, alongside New York state charges of murder as terrorism, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

The DOJ's move aligns with efforts to address violent crime, though Mangione's supporters and legal team continue to challenge the case, raising concerns over evidence handling and prosecutorial overreach. If convicted federally, Mangione could face execution, a penalty not available under New York state law.

DEVELOPING: California bill would ban trans athletes from girls' high school sports.

"Should lawmakers create a new law to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls' interscholastic sports?" That is a question at the center of a hearing inside the state Capitol on Tuesday.

The Assembly's Arts, Entertainment, Sports, and Tourism Committee scheduled the first hearing on Republican Rancho Santa Margarita Assemblymember Kate Sanchez's proposed AB 89.  Sanchez has previously stated that this proposal is not only about fairness but also about safety for female athletes.

Border Patrol encounters for the month of March were 7,181 total. Compare that to the 160,000+ average monthly encounters under Joe Biden.

Thank you to the patriotic CBP men and women who work every day to make this country safe again.
