Fake SNOW could be used to stop the melting of the west Antarctic ice sheet which threatens to flood the world's coastal cities including New York, Tokyo and Shanghai. Scientists say the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet - which would threaten many cities with catastrophic flooding - may be prevented by covering it in trillions of tons of artificial snow. โ๏ธ #science & #facepalm

An asteroid predicted to have a small chance of one day colliding with Earth will miss us this time around when it makes a close approach on September 9, the European Space Agency says. ESA has ruled out an impact this year from an asteroid called 2006 QV89, and found that any future impacts are extremely unlikely. And, for the first time, the scientists made this determination not by assessing where the asteroid is, but by where it isnโt. According to ESA, asteroid 2006 QV89 has not been seen since it was first discovered back in August 2006. While that might sound unsettling, the space agency has ruled out a September 9 impact by way of โnon-detection,โ after looking where it would be if it were on the collision course and (thankfully) spotting no sign of it. โบ๏ธ #fuck_lucky

The secret locations of US nuclear weapons hidden in Europe have been revealed in a NATO document. A draft report for the NATO parliamentary assembly's defence and security committee seen by AFP gave details of six air bases in Europe and Turkey where it said the US stores 150 nuclear weapons, specifically B-61 gravity bombs. The news comes amid fears of a new nuclear arms race in Europe, as a landmark Cold War treaty between Moscow and Washington is on the brink of collapse.๐ฃ
Notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquรญn "El Chapo" Guzmรกn Loera was formally sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, bringing to an apparent end a decades-long, brutal and lucrative life of crime. Brooklyn U.S. District Court Judge Brian Cogan imposed extra security provided by bomb-sniffing dogs, automatic-rifle-toting U.S. marshals and other measures โ all ordered because the 62-year-old former leader of the Sinaloa narcotics cartel staged two escapes from Mexican jails. "The overwhelming evil is so clear," Cogan said as he imposed the punishment in the same courtroom where a jury convicted Guzmรกn in February. There was "a mountain-load of evidence" showing Guzmรกn's guilt, the judge added.๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ

At least 20 protesters have been arrested in demonstration against a $1.4 billion telescope scheduled to be constructed on top of a Hawaiian volcano that some natives consider sacred. That's according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, which reported that many of the elderly natives, or "kupuna" in Hawaiian, preferred to be arrested rather than let the telescope equipment proceed. Several protesters in the crowd were reportedly weeping as police took away the elderly demonstrators. ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ

President Donald Trump slammed Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the members of the far-left 'squad' at his campaign rally Wednesday night with supporters responding with shouts of 'send her back'. Trump accused Omar, a Somalian refugee who became an American citizen, of blaming terrorists attacks on our country. 'She smeared U.S. Service members involved in Black Hawk Down,' he said referring to the failed 1993 raid in Mogadishu by the U.S. military. 'In other words, she slandered the brave Americans were trying to keep peace in Somalia. Omar minimized the September 11th attacks on our homeland saying some people did something,' he added. And he added, 'Omar has a history of launching vicious anti-semitic' attacks. 'Send her back, send her back,' the crowd roared - a reference to Trump's tweet on Sunday where he suggested the members of the 'squad' should go 'back where they came from' if they were unhappy. #MAGA
