In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr Putin said 'the liberal idea' in Europe and America was on its way out because it is in 'conflict with the interests of the overwhelming majority of the population'. And he claimed German chancellor Angela Merkel made a 'cardinal mistake' in her 2017 decision to allow a million refugees into the country. He said: 'This liberal idea presupposes that nothing needs to be done. That migrants can kill, plunder and rape with impunity because their rights as migrants have to be protected.' He added: 'Every crime must have its punishment'.

Twin girls, two, who were found dead in the back of their 'suicidal' mother's car on Long Island as she is charged with their murder. Tenia Campbell, 24, of Medford, New York was arrested at the scene following a frantic police search spanning more than 60 miles, which began when she called 911 on Thursday at 2.30pm threatening to kill herself and her daughters. Police say the young girls were taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital where they were tragically pronounced dead. Campbell was transported to East Hampton Town Police Headquarters and charged by Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives with two counts of murder.
