Two oil tankers, the MT Front Altair and the Kokuka Courageous, were hit by explosions in the Gulf of Oman today and the Altair has reportedly sunk after catching fire. The Taiwanese oil refiner which chartered the Altair said the ship was 'suspected of being hit by a torpedo' while a shipping broker said the Panama-flagged Kokuka had suffered an explosion after an 'outside attack' which may have involved a magnetic mine. Britain has urged 'extreme caution' amid high tensions in the Middle East, just weeks after four tankers were attacked in a mysterious act of sabotage off the UAE coast which Washington believes was the work of Iran. The tensions have prompted the U.S. to send aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to bolster its military presence in the region. ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿ”ฅ
