Almost one-quarter of the ice in the West Antarctic ice sheet has been classified as "unstable," according to a new study released this week. This is due to the huge volume of ice that's melted from the ice sheet over the past 25 years. Some areas are losing ice five times faster than they were in the early 1990s. This map shows changes to the Antarctic ice sheet’s thickness from 1992 to 2017. Ice loss is in red while ice gained is in blue. 😱❄️💧
