The Los Angeles County Sheriffβs Department pays homage to over half a million American Service Members who have suffered imprisonment under wartime conditions on #FormerPOWRecognitionDay. National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day was first observed in 1988 when proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan.
These brave heroes remind us of the grave costs of war and the potential sacrifices we ask of those who fight for us. We are reminded of our solemn duty to serve our former prisoners of war, their families, and all Veterans as well as they have served us. It is our responsibility to ensure they will never be forgotten.
