The trio stepped onto the plane wing at Moscow's Vnukovo airport shortly before take off on airline Utair's flight to Makhachkala, near Georgia. They did this because they opened they saw flames coming out of the right side engine and, after alerting crew, decided to open the emergency door to escape. They were 'detained' at the airport while other passengers were put onto another flight. An airline spokesman told Russian RBC news that the fire was 'ordinary' and caused by a disrupted airflow when the engine started. ✈️
