The eastern span of the 63-year-old bridge across the Hudson River in upstate New York came down in a controlled demolition at 10.52am on Tuesday, marking the end of an era for commuters in the region. Despite bone-chilling temperatures of 29 degrees, hundreds gathered on the river banks and a nearby pier to watch the bridge come down.
