Christopher Watts has been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of his pregnant wife and their two daughters at an emotional hearing where he was torn apart by his distraught father-in-law. Watts, 33, looked down in court in Colorado on Monday morning (center) as his late wife's father Frank Rzucek (left) told him of his disgust at the killings. Watts strangled pregnant Shanann, 34, and smothered their daughters Bella and Celeste, aged four and three (all pictured together right), in August after he told his wife he was having an affair and planned to leave her. He was caught on surveillance cameras carrying the bodies from the family home before burying his wife in a shallow grave and dumping his daughters in containers of crude oil. He accepted a plea deal earlier this month to avoid facing the death penalty. 'I trusted you to take care of them, not kill them,' Rzucek said. 'They also trusted you. The heartless monster and then you take them out like trash. You disgust me.'

Four people total were shot at Mercy Hospital on the city's South Side on Monday afternoon. The 32-year-old gunman is among the dead. Authorities said shots were fired inside and outside of the hospital between 3pm and 3.30pm. Witnesses said the gunman was talking to a woman in the hospital parking lot who was wearing scrubs. He then suddenly pulled out a gun and shot her three times in the chest before shooting her three more times after she fell to the ground. The gunman then entered the hospital and fired 32 rounds. 'Once he entered, he just started shooting at random,' one witness said . 'It looked like he was turning and pointing at people at random.' The gunman died inside the hospital. It remains unknown if he was shot by an officer or died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
