A Chicago firefighter trapped on top of a burning building while battling a blaze Friday saved himself by leaping to an adjacent rooftop, dramatic video shows. The footage, captured by WGN-TV, shows the fireman jumping to safety after being stranded atop a residential building fully engulfed in flames and dark smoke in the city’s Bridgeport section. The extra-alarm blaze broke out about 7 a.m. in the 2700 block of South Lowe Avenue as power lines in the neighborhood were catching fire, the station reported. Firefighters were spotted coming down a ladder from the building’s rooftop as the news station’s helicopter arrived above the massive blaze. Footage then captured the smoke-eater jumping from the burning building’s rooftop to escape flames.

Two Florida women dressed up as elderly women with bonnets and glasses so they could get the COVID-19 vaccine — and it worked, at least the first time, officials said. The duo was caught when they tried to get their second dose Wednesday at the Orange County Convention Center in Florida. “Yesterday, we realized a couple of young ladies came dressed up as grannies to get vaccinated for the second time, so I don’t know how they escaped the first time, but they came (to get) vaccinated. The bonnets, the gloves, the glasses,” said Dr. Raul Pino, from the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. Pino said he’s not sure how the two young women were able to get their first doses, but when they showed up Wednesday to complete the series, they had a valid vaccination card. But “there were some issues with their IDs and their driver’s licenses,” he said. It’s not known whether the women will face charges.

LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva: Honoring LASD HQ's History, Deputy Sheriff Earl J. Morris.

Deputy Morris was a very active LASD Deputy and author. Having served in both WWI and WWII, he joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1944. Morris fought against racism in Hollywood films and successfully campaigned against the use of a racially derogatory term in the film "Gone with the Wind." In 1951, Deputy Morris authored his book "The Cop," a novel about a young African American boy who served his country in WWI and his community as peace officer. He is seen here handing a copy to California Superior Court Judge Benjamin Scheinman, May 2, 1951.
