LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva: It was disheartening to learn LA DA Office will not pursue the death penalty against the suspect who killed Roy Torres & Whittier PD Officer Keith Boyer. Los Angeles -- Just In -- A pursuit of a reckless driving suspect wound its way across several L.A. freeways before ending when authorities crashed into the driver at a gas station in Eagle Rock
Today LAPD Chief Moore announced an important step forward—the reimagining of public safety, as we focus on our core function, the protection & safety of Los Angeles, and finding non law enforcement alternatives to matters such as traffic collisions. One of these important steps is the expansion of our online reporting system known as the Community Online Reporting System (CORS), to reports matters such as theft from vehicle, vandalism & traffic collisions. Another important step is the referral of calls best served by other resources such as LA city or LA county services, along with the ability to submit crime tips by the use of http://lacrimestoppers.org. Lastly we’re grateful for partnerships with agencies such as Didi Hirsch, in which rather than an officer responding to those experiencing mental health issues, we can offer an alternative service when there is no imminent risk to themselves or others.

Good Night California!
National forecast. A slow warm up is on the way for Texas and the rest of the South this weekend. The system that brought snow, ice and rain to the East will begin to move off shore, and a quieter weather pattern will be welcome news starting next week. Happy Friday everyone!
