NYC -- A recent 911 call about a distressed man w/a gun brought cops to a Bronx apartment. Even after being shot at, NYPD Special ops ESU tried to deescalate the situation for over an hour. It’s only thanks to their training & restraint that this didn’t have a very different outcome.

Los Angeles -- Just In -- A pursuit of a reckless driving suspect wound its way across several L.A. freeways before ending when authorities crashed into the driver at a gas station in Eagle Rock
Today LAPD Chief Moore announced an important step forward—the reimagining of public safety, as we focus on our core function, the protection & safety of Los Angeles, and finding non law enforcement alternatives to matters such as traffic collisions. One of these important steps is the expansion of our online reporting system known as the Community Online Reporting System (CORS), to reports matters such as theft from vehicle, vandalism & traffic collisions. Another important step is the referral of calls best served by other resources such as LA city or LA county services, along with the ability to submit crime tips by the use of http://lacrimestoppers.org. Lastly we’re grateful for partnerships with agencies such as Didi Hirsch, in which rather than an officer responding to those experiencing mental health issues, we can offer an alternative service when there is no imminent risk to themselves or others.
