SPOKANE, Wash. — A North Idaho internet provider, Your T1 WIFI, confirmed it is blocking Facebook and Twitter from its WIFI service for some customers due to censorship claims. The move comes after Twitter and Facebook banned President Trump from their platforms. Your T1 WIFI claims they blocked the social media sites due to censorship, but the sites' actions don't violate First Amendment rights. Because Twitter and Facebook are private companies, their bans on the president do not violate the First Amendment, which protects speech from being limited by the government. The internet provider said it had received several calls from customers about both websites. "It has come to our attention that Twitter and Facebook are engaged in censorship of our customers and information," an email to customers reads. The service provider said the change would go into effect on Wednesday, Jan. 13. (Read more.)

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks out against censorship by "Twitter, Facebook, Apple, and on college campuses" while speaking at VOA: "Censorship, wokeness, political correctness, it all points in one direction: authoritarianism cloaked as moral righteousness."
A Michigan state panel on Monday banned the open carry of weapons in the state Capitol in the wake of the siege of the US Capitol and threats to storm the statehouse in Lansing. The State Capitol Commission, which has jurisdiction over the Wolverine State Capitol, has shifted position and approved the ban following the unrest in Washington DC. “Bullets are bullets,” state Sen. Dayna Polehanki told the Associated Press. “There is no reason any gun belongs in the Capitol. It’s absurd, the world thinks it’s absurd,” said Polehanki, who argued that the ban still doesn’t go far enough. “It sickens me that this is even being considered as a viable option.” Some lawmakers have been calling for a weapons ban since April when armed protesters stormed the Michigan Capitol to protest the state’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
The conservative-friendly social network Parler was booted off the internet Monday over ties to last week’s siege on the U.S. Capitol, but not before digital activists made off with an archive of its posts, including any that might have helped organize or document the riot.

Amazon kicked Parler off its web-hosting service, and the social media app promptly sued to get back online, telling a federal judge that the tech giant had breached its contract and abused its market power.

It was a roller coaster of activity for Parler, a 2-year-old magnet for the far right that welcomed a surge of new users and became the No. 1 free app on iPhones late last week, after Facebook, Twitter and other mainstream social media platforms silenced President Donald Trump’s accounts over comments that seemed to incite Wednesday’s violent insurrection.

The wave of Trump followers flocking to the service was short-lived. Google yanked Parler’s smartphone app from its app store Friday for allowing postings that seek “to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.”

Apple followed suit on Saturday after giving Parler a day to address complaints it was being used to “plan and facilitate yet further illegal and dangerous activities.” It was later joined by Amazon Web Services, the leading provider of cloud computing infrastructure, which informed Parler it would need to look for a new web-hosting service after Sunday.

Parler CEO John Matze decried the punishments as “a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the marketplace.”

Parler’s lawsuit in a Seattle-based federal court makes the argument that Amazon violated antitrust laws to harm Parler and help Twitter. It also alleges Amazon breached its contract by not giving 30 days of notice before terminating Parler’s account. Amazon and Parler did not return requests for comment about the dispute Monday.
LOS ANGELES — Herbert Nixon Flores, a 46-year-old criminal alien with an extensive criminal history, is the prime suspect in the murder of 35-year-old Karen Ruiz in the Pacoima area, Jan. 6.

Flores shot and killed himself according to law enforcement officials days later. Flores, a repeat immigration offender, had been sought by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for removal, but a detainer issued to the Los Angeles Police Department last Fall was not honored due to California’s dangerous sanctuary policy.

Flores was an illegally present Salvadoran national with a criminal history and convictions spanning more than 30 years. Since 1990, he had been ordered removed and physically deported from the United States 10 times. His criminal history included carrying a concealed weapon, trespassing, burglary, disturbing the peace, possession and transportation of a controlled substance, impersonation, driving under the influence, driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, vandalism, criminal threats and illegal entry.

On Sept. 7, Flores was arrested for a domestic violence with injury charge by the LAPD. The next day, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the LAPD which chose to not honor the detainer and instead released Flores back into the community.
