Police in the UK could start using the new Ford Mustang on the roads, with one example already wearing the familiar battenberg livery. It's for display purposes only, but the black model also seen in these pictures is actually being trialled by the police. The white show car is apparently a pre-production model, but has been treated to the police livery for the National Association of Police Fleet Managers trade fair. The logic behind using a Mustang on the police fleet is sound, too, and follows US police forces that have been using the car for decades. With a 410bhp V8 engine under the bonnet and a price tag of $45,000, the Mustang would be an affordable performance car for high-speed pursuits. It also fits with the large number of Ford police cars across UK forces, so servicing and maintenance costs would be lower than an equivalent car from another manufacturer.

A Massachusetts police officer used his own money to buy Christmas dinner for a family in need instead of charging two women with shoplifting. Somerset Police Officer Matt Lima was called to a Stop & Shop grocery store on December 20 after store security said the women didn't scan everything that they put in their bags at a self-checkout register, according to a statement on the police department's website. The women, who had two small children with them, were stopped as they left the store, police said. Lima took one of the women aside so they could talk about what happened without the children hearing. Store employees kept the kids occupied, so they wouldn't know what was going on. He looked at the receipt to see what the women had planned to buy and saw they were just getting food. He served them with a notice not to trespass, but did not press charges, police said. Lima bought a $250 gift card for the women, so they could buy their groceries at a different store.

PUEBLO WEST, CO – Two Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies were shot by a suspect on January 1st, after checking on a local who was reportedly phoning in threats to both the Tennessee State Patrol and the Tennessee Capitol building. One deputy was hit in the shoulder, while the other was shot on the top of the head – amazingly, both deputies are expected to make a full recovery. The incident began when the sheriff’s office was alerted to a local resident, later identified as 48-year-old Edie Lovins, that had been calling in threats to the Tennessee State Patrol and the Tennessee Capitol building. What the specific nature of those phoned-in threats were are unclear as of this time. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to make contact with Lovins regarding the over-the-phone threats during the morning hours of January 1st in the area of Tenderfoot Lane in the Pueblo West. However, deputies were unable to locate Lovins at the time. (Read more.)
