A construction worker who died after plunging from a 10-foot ladder in Croatia was actually killed by the coronavirus, doctors said in a report. The unnamed 51-year-old man fell into a yard while building a home earlier this year and suffered cuts and bruises to his head, according to the Journal of Forensic Pathology. The builder was declared dead at the scene but an autopsy later revealed that COVID-19 had indirectly caused the accident because effects of the illness were disorienting, the journal notes. During the autopsy, doctors found that large swaths of the manโ€™s lungs were blocked. The finding then led scientists to conclude that he suffered from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) โ€” a life-threatening condition that can be caused by COVID-19. โ€œBased on all findings, the death was ruled as natural, caused by COVID-19,โ€ the report notes. The man also tested positive for the virus. Ultimately, the death must be recorded as a COVID-19 fatality under World Health Organization guidelines. #WTF

One of La Vergneโ€™s K9s is in critical condition after being shot three times on Tuesday, November 17. Sjaak is a Belgian Malinois who has been with the department since 2014. His handler, Officer Justin Darby, was not injured in the shooting incident. Sjaak was scheduled to undergo emergency surgery Wednesday. Initial reports indicate that shortly after noon, a La Vergne PD #K9 officer had turned on to Murfreesboro Road from the police station, when a vehicle pulled alongside on the passenger side, and fired shots into his patrol car. The officer pursued the driver, and other officers joined the pursuit. Information from the scene indicates the driver exited his vehicle and fired at officers, with officers returning fire. The subject got back into his vehicle and drove further into the parking lot, striking a parked vehicle before coming to rest. When officers approached the vehicle, they found the driver has sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.
