Boston, MA – Boston Police Department (BPD) K9 Rocky died on July 15 following a brief illness, according to his department. The BPD announced the seven-year-old dual-purpose explosive detection and patrol K9’s death in a Facebook post the same day. “The Boston Police Department regrets to announce the passing of active duty K-9 Rocky following a brief illness,” the post read. #K9 Rocky served BPD for six years. He helped to apprehend suspects in numerous high-profile cases during his career, including the 2016 apprehension of a murder suspect in Taunton. In 2018, he assisted in the arrest of a suspect who disrobed in the bedroom of a woman he didn’t know after breaking into her home. K9 Rocky also located a loaded handgun and other evidence that helped to tie a suspect to a 2017 armed robbery. “His handler and partner noted that Rocky was a great dog who enjoyed working and will be dearly missed,” a BPD statement said. “Our thoughts go out to this officer during this difficult time.”
A homeless man lived in the luxury suite at the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer stadium for two weeks undetected after sneaking in with a cleaning crew then setting up home inside. Daniel Albert Neja, 39, was arrested on Sunday after being caught by a cleaning crew in the stadium. He had stolen more than $1,000 in clothes from the merchandise store and drunk $250 worth of alcohol before being caught. He had been living in the stadium since July 26 when, according to a police report, he blended in with cleaning crews to get inside. Once they left, he stayed behind and went undisturbed for more than two weeks. For food, Neja pillaged concession stands. He wore clothes from the merchandise store worth a total of $1,043. He was discovered finally by a cleaning crew on Sunday, who found his blankets, razors and shaving foam. Neja was arrested on charges of burglary and resisting an officer without violence. He is now being held in the Pinellas County Jail on a $5,000 bail.

Two 13-year-old boys running a lemonade stand in suburban Illinois have been robbed at gunpoint by two other teenagers who made off with $30 in profits. Surveillance video captured the moment Jude Peterson and his friend were robbed outside his home in Peoria, southwest of Chicago, last Friday afternoon. Following news of the robbery, there has been an outpouring of support for the two teen boys. When they set up their stand again on Tuesday for the first time, more than a dozen officers from the Peoria Police Department came by to support them. 'I may have cried a little,' Jude's father Nathan said, according to the PJ Star. 'Our hearts are overwhelmed by the love and support of the community - people from totally different backgrounds, police, everyone - all rallying around these boys.'
Less than 24 hours after being shot at, an #LAPD Southwest Division officer was back on patrol. His work that night included a traffic stop that led to the recovery of a stolen gun from a gang member. We’re grateful the officer wasn’t injured when shot at—and his commitment is undeniable.
