Over 13 public school teachers have been arrested in the Portland riots. Many of them are elementary school teachers.
There has been a reduction in homicides and shooting incidents in Chicago since the city's police force launched two units aimed at specifically combating gun violence and ensuring protests. Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said 'tenuous progress' has been made in the department's efforts to stem gun violence. There were three homicides over the weekend compared to 12 and eight the previous two weekends and 17 over the July Fourth weekend, Brown said at a news conference. That compares to 41 the previous weekend, 50 the weekend before that and 87 during the long Independence Day weekend. On Monday morning, a 10-month-old baby also ended up in critical condition after being shot on the Bishop Ford Expressway on the South Side. The girl was shot while in the back seat of a northbound car on I-94 at 115th Street, according to Illinois State Police. The driver heard a single gunshot at 11:15 a.m., and then noticed the infant was injured.

Horrifying. This family will never be the same.
A man from Nevada was killed and his son was seriously injured over the weekend after multiple lightning strikes on a reservoir in California left several hurt. The incident happened Saturday afternoon at the Stampede Reservoir in Sierra County, located northwest of Truckee, as thunderstorms were reported in the area. Officials told FOX11 that Eugene Arao, 47, was on a jet ski on the reservoir with his son nearby when they were struck by lightning. The death in California was also the 6th jet ski-related fatality in the U.S. since 2006. Between 2006 and 2019, a review of some 418 fatal lightning strikes found that 62 percent of deaths were linked to leisure activities. Activities where people may be outside and not know if a storm is approaching when they are camping or fishing because they are using a motor on a boat that drowns out the sound of thunder are factors to consider.
