A California police officer seen on cellphone video kicking and dragging a woman during an arrest has been placed on desk duty, according to reports. The incident, recorded by a bystander, took place Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in San Jose. San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia said that an internal review of the incident was already underway when the video surfaced on social media, the San Jose Mercury News reported. The officer, who wasn’t identified, was placed on administrative leave. Garcia said the vehicle eluded officers on July 18 and July 22 when officers tried to stop it. The first attempted stop was for an expired registration. The paper reported the video, which lasts a minute, begins with the officer appearing to dart toward the woman and kicking her in the side, sending her face-down onto the pavement. He then handcuffs her.

A BLM protester, who was shot dead during in Texas by a driver who sped toward the crowd before opening fire Saturday night, was pushing his quadruple amputee fiancee in her wheelchair just moments before the shooting. The victim has been identified as Garrett Foster. Foster's mother said her son had attended several peaceful protests with his fiancee Whitney Mitchell, who is a quadruple amputee. Sheila said Foster was pushing his fiancee right before he was fatally shot. The shooting happened just before 10pm during a protest in Austin, police spokesperson Katrina Ratliff told reporters early Sunday. During the demonstration, a vehicle had honked, turned down a road and then sped toward protesters, witness Michael Capochiano said. The vehicle became surrounded by shouting protesters, and Foster approached the vehicle carrying his AK-47, Capochiano recalled. The driver then stuck a gun out of the car window and fired several shots, hitting Foster, before speeding away, according to the witness.

A trunk hauling crates of whiskey through Missouri spilled thousands of bottles onto a highway after overturning early Wednesday. The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds – about 12,000 bottles – of Templeton Rye whiskey when it rolled around 5 a.m. on U.S. Highway 71 near the Arkansas border. No one was injured. However, photos of the wreckage showed a shredded tractor trailer. Thousands of bottles of the 80 proof spirit were broken and strewn across the highway and in a nearby ditch. "It makes you wonder what else can go wrong in 2020,” Templeton Rye co-founder Keith Kerkhoff told the Springfield News-Leader. “Thank God, nobody got hurt.” The four-year-old whiskey was being shipped from a distributor in Templeton, Iowa, Kevin Boersma, Templeton Rye's processing manager, told the paper. The shipment, which had a retail value over $325,000, was considered a total loss, along with the truck and trailer, Kerkhoff and Boersma said.
