The US has once again set a record-high number of #coronavirus cases. In comparison, there were just above 63,900 new infections reported the previous day. There are now 3,215,861 Americans who have been diagnosed with the highly contagious virus, and 134,420 who have died.

The #NYPD arrested Patrick Chambers, 46, on charges of assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon following a stabbing incident that took place on the 7 train earlier this month. In the video, the suspect was wearing a coronavirus mask and does not show his face. A spokeswoman for the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI), Detective Sophia Mason, said the attack took place on July 5 at 52nd street in Queens and was unprovoked. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed a 71-year-old male and a 73-year-old male. Both victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital and were in stable condition at the time. The suspect was arrested at the 52 Street station stop and a knife was reportedly recovered from his person. No official court date was provided.

Two Texas police officers killed in ambush shooting. The city's government Facebook page had a message of condolence for Garza and Chavez's fellow officers and their families. "Today, two McAllen Police officers were killed in the line of duty," the post stated. "The City of McAllen extends its deepest condolences to the McAllen Police Department and to the families of Officer Edelmiro Garza and Officer Ismael Chavez. Our City is hurting and our hearts and prayers go out to them during this difficult time."

A Florida man was arrested Saturday after plowing his vehicle into a Catholic church and then setting the building on fire as parishioners were inside preparing for Mass. The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Steven Anthony Shields, 24, crashed his van through the front doors of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala around 7:30 a.m. He got out, poured gasoline in the foyer area and set it on fire. Shields then drove off but was spotted by Deputy Josue Gonzalez, who stopped the vehicle by hitting it with his patrol car, the sheriff's office said. Officials said parishioners were not injured. Marion County firefighters quickly doused the fire. Shields, who lives in nearby Dunnellon, also said he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is not taking his medication. Shields is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, arson, burglary and attempting to elude. He is being held in the Marion County Jail.

A massive fire and explosion on board a Navy ship at the Naval Base San Diego has injured several sailors and sent billowing plumes of smoke and ash into the sky. Fire and rescue crews are on the scene responding to the three-alarm fire on the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) after the blaze broke out around 8.51am, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said. About 200 sailors and officers were on board the 840-foot ship Sunday morning. San Diego is the ship’s homeport. The vessel was undergoing routine maintenance at the time of the fire
