Michigan authorities have charged an 18-year-old black man for the “unprovoked,” caught-on-video assault of a white Macy’s manager, officials said. Damire Palmer, of Mount Morris Township, faces one count of felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder for the June 26 attack on the employee inside the Flint department store. Palmer is still in the wind. “This was an unprovoked attack on a Macy’s employee,” said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton in a statement. “This behavior as seen on the video is unacceptable, it is criminal, and it cannot be allowed. ”Contrary to initial claims, police and prosecutors didn’t uncover any evidence that Palmer assaulted the staffer after he’d allegedly used the N-word, officials said. “We don’t believe any racial slur was made by the store manager,” Leyton said.

Princeton University will remove former President Woodrow Wilson’s name from its public policy school and a residential college, the school’s president announced Saturday. Christopher Eisgruber announced the institution’s decision in a statement published on the school’s website. He cited Wilson’s “racist views and policies” as the main factor in the decision. "The trustees conclude that Woodrow Wilson's racist thinking and policies make him an inappropriate namesake for a school or college whose scholars, students, and alumni must firmly stand against racism in all its forms,” the statement read. The trustees voted Friday to remove the name of the public policy school, which will hence be known as The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, while the college will simply be called First College.

Part of Interstate 95 was briefly shut down Friday while deputies stopped a man wanted in connection with a shooting in Miami-Dade County, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. Rodrick Thomas, 23, was taken into custody on charges of shooting into a dwelling and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. Ormond Beach police spotted the vehicle shortly after noon, the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post, and a Volusia deputy was able to catch up to it and conduct a felony traffic stop. Thomas was arrested without incident.

A New York City man has been arrested after video showed his attempted rape of a woman in an apartment building lobby in broad daylight Friday morning. The attack happened around 8 a.m. on East 210 Street in the Norwood section of the Bronx. Surveillance footage released Saturday shows a man pulling a woman through the door of a building, putting her in a headlock, and throwing her to the ground. He then repeatedly punches her. The man, identified as 25-year-old Michael Rosa following his arrest Sunday, also tried to take off the 27-year-old woman’s clothes. Rosa fled after the woman fought back, police said. She was taken to a hospital and treated for bruises on her face and arms. Rosa faces charges of attempted rape, strangulation, sex abuse, forcible touching and assault.

A shocking video has emerged showing gunfire ringing out at a Louisville, Ky., protest demanding justice for Breonna Taylor Saturday that left one dead and another injured, as police revealed the suspected gunman was a fellow protester. Tyler Charles Gerth, 27, of Louisville, died of a gunshot wound Saturday night, the Jefferson County coroner's office said. Police said the protester, later identified as Steven Nelson Lopez, was wounded in the incident and remained in custody at the hospital. The news conference Sunday clarified that the gunman was a protester. Speculation on social media suggested that an armed patriot group could have been responsible for the shooting. Louisville Assistant Chief of Police Robert Schroeder also shut down other rumors that Metro Police had paid the gunman to open fire at protesters.
President Trump asked for the public's help in identifying people being sought by law enforcement in connection to the vandalization of the Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Square earlier this week. The commander in chief shared 15 individual press releases from the U.S. Park Police, that showed photographs of suspects who allegedly desecrated the Washington, D.C., statue, which lies on federally owned land.
