CHINLE, Arizona -- A veteran of the Navajo Police Department succumbed to complications from COVID-19 on Friday. Officer Michael Lee -- a 29-year veteran with the Chinle Police District -- is the first Navajo police officer to die in the line of duty as a result of COVID-19. Officer Lee began his law enforcement career as a police recruit with the Navajo Police Academy in Toyei, Arizona in October 1990. In his 29 years of dedication with the department, Lee was a patrol officer, a Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) officer, a supporter of the information technology component of the department, and he worked closely with the community. He began his career serving the Window Rock community for seven years and dedicated his remaining years to the Chinle community. #RIP

TAMPA — Detectives made six arrests and rescued five victims during an undercover human trafficking investigation that lasted three months, Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said. Chronister dubbed the six suspects the Sinful 6, and said their ring leader was Bradford Alan Pugh, 43, of Tampa. Pugh was being held on $1.03 million bail on seven charges of human trafficking and two racketeering charges, according to jail records. He was arrested Feb. 7. Chronister asked other human trafficking victims to step forward, pledging to “help you and provide services so that you may take back your life.” The number to call is (813) 247-200 at the Sheriff’s Office or the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888.

NENA announced today that it has cancelled its in-person 2020 Annual Conference & Expo and is replacing it with an online event due to public-health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. The face-to-face event was originally scheduled to be held in June in Long Beach, California, before being postponed to September. However, given the still-uncertain trajectory of the pandemic, and considering that conference participants would be coming from all over the country and around the world, NENA concluded that cancelling the in-person meeting was the only safe and responsible action.
