The Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said his department is investigating after a video emerged online Tuesday appearing to show deputies shooting protesters in the back with pepper balls as they run away in a Hollywood neighborhood. The footage was taken in the area of Fountain and Highland avenues, according to witnesses. In it, a deputy can be seen leaning out the passenger side window of a marked SUV and taking aim at a group of five people walking along a sidewalk. The group can be seen turning around and running in the opposite direction before deputies fire more than dozen projectiles at the group. Pepper balls could be seen exploding as they struck hard objects including a lamp post and car windshield. Villanueva added that he urged witnesses to the incident and the events leading up to it to contact the Sheriff’s Department.

Over 400 individuals were arrested in Santa Monica after a night filled with looting and unrest, but officials say 95% were individuals who traveled to the city. Santa Monica Police Chief Cynthia Renaud announced the number of arrests during a press conference, stating that the actions did not represent the city itself or its residents.

Three Nevada men with suspected ties to the so-called “boogaloo” movement were arrested in Las Vegas Saturday for allegedly planning to “incite violence” at a protest sparked by the death of George Floyd, federal prosecutors said. They were arrested Saturday on the way to a protest in downtown Las Vegas after filling gas cans at a parking lot and making Molotov cocktails in glass bottles, according to a copy of the criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Press. Stephen T. Parshall, 35; Andrew T. Lynam Jr., 23, and William L. Loomis, 40, were being held on $1 million bonds each in the Clark County Jail Wednesday, according to court records. Each currently faces two federal charges -- conspiracy to damage and destroy by fire and explosive, and possession of unregistered firearms -- along with multiple terrorism-related state charges.
