Oklahoma is the latest state to start easing lockdown restrictions in a bid to kick start the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Kevin Stitt said the state will begin to reopen Friday with barbershops, hair and nail salons, pet groomers and spas back in business. Others, including restaurants and movie theaters, can reopen within 10 days, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said. Oklahoma joins Colorado, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas in restarting their economies. It comes after President Donald Trump last week gave the nation's governors his road map for how the US can reopen businesses and schools shut down by the coronavirus. The guidelines suggest that states should record two weeks of declining cases before reopening. None of the states that are reopening have yet to record such a decline.

French researchers are planning to test nicotine patches on coronavirus patients and frontline health workers after a study suggested smokers may be much less at risk of contracting the virusm, the Guardian reported. The study at a major Paris hospital suggests a substance in tobacco – possibly nicotine – may be stopping patients who smoke from catching Covid-19. Clinical trials of nicotine patches are awaiting the approval of the country’s health authorities. It found that of those admitted to hospital, whose median age was 65, only 4.4% were regular smokers. Among those released home, with a median age of 44, 5.3% smoked. Taking into account the age and sex of the patients, the researchers discovered the number of smokers was much lower than that in the general population estimated by the French health authority Santé Publique France at about 40% for those aged 44-53 and between 8.8% and 11.3% for those aged 65-75.
At least six people were killed after tornadoes tore through parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana Wednesday evening into Thursday, splintering homes and overturning a semi-truck on an interstate. The National Weather Service's (NWS) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said there were preliminary reports of 26 tornadoes throughout the day Wednesday across the Southern Plains, with the number likely to go up as the severe weather moves across Mississippi on Thursday. "We had over two dozen reports of tornadoes, one of them proving fatal in Oklahoma last night," Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean said on "Fox & Friends." In Texas, at least three people were killed when an apparent tornado touched down about 6 p.m. Wednesday near Onalaska, about 75 miles north of Houston, the Polk County Emergency Management System said in a statement.
