A $10,000 reward was being offered for information that helps the FBI crack the case, Fox 5 DC reported Tuesday. A northern California sheriff’s deputy was "lucky" to survive a gunshot to the chest after his body camera helped to block the bullet an unknown suspect fired during an "ambush" attack near a reservoir Friday night, investigators said. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Sukhdeep Gill was on a routine patrol along a rural mountain road in the foothills of unincorporated Morgan Hill, Calif., near the Uvas Reservoir, when he got out of his patrol vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. An unknown vehicle approached Gill and suddenly switched off its headlights. At least four gunshots were fired, with one bullet striking the deputy in the chest, FOX KTVU reported. The deputy returned fire, but it was not known whether the suspect was hit.
A child who was among the 195 Americans evacuated from Wuhan, the center of the #coronavirus outbreak in China, and are now quarantined at March Air Reserve in Riverside, California has been hospitalized with a fever, local officials said Tuesday. Another traveler who arrived at LAX is also now under federal quarantine. Officials say the child and their parent were transported to Riverside University Health System-Medical Center out of 'an abundance of caution.' The pediatric patient from the air base and their parent were under a 14-day federally mandated quarantine, the first ordered by US health officials in 50 years. If the child is confirmed to have coronavirus, they would be the twelfth in the US and the seventh diagnosed in California, but the first case among the quarantined passengers.

A 21-year-old military son — who had been stationed overseas for the past two years — surprised his police officer mom during her swearing-in ceremony in Texas. Irving police released the heartwarming video Friday morning. "All swearing-ins are special but every once in a while one tugs at your heartstrings a little more than others," the department wrote. Chief Jeff Spivey handed Officer Erika Benning's badge to her husband so he could pin it on her uniform, but then her son, Sgt. Giovanni Pando, walked out from around the corner. Benning, despite her best efforts, immediately burst into tears.

I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated everything he did. He’s definitely a great asset to the Highway Patrol.”
